Trip 2014 - A Week of Adventure

The day was sunny and the winds were strong. Sailing south, all you could see was beautiful blue skies. Looking back at Kenora, the skies were dark and thunder clouds were rolling in. Glad I was going in the opposite direction.
By evening the winds had calmed and I had found myself a nice anchorage.

After a breakfast of toast and honeydew melon I decided to dingy to the island and go for a quick hike. After that I set sail for Tranquil Channel. My final destination was Lily Island but upon entering the channel my motor died. Because of the direction of the wind and the narrowness of the channel, if I continued on down the channel there would be no way to return without motor assistance. With still lots of wind to be had, I headed northeast to find a new anchorage before sunset.

Without the use of a motor I decided to head north of the Barrier Islands, staying closer to home. This would allow me to continue sailing without the worry of getting stuck somewhere. The only big concern would be the final return through Keewatin Channel. I grabbed a few aerial shots early morning before the winds started to pick up. The rest of the day was amazing sailing weather.

I could tell I was close to Kenora since a thunder storm rolled in last night. Fortunately I awoke to another beautiful sailing day. I spent the entire day first sailing northeast towards Smith Camps, west past Bear Point and then back south to Whiskey Island.
